Its too soon to tell, but is this team is developing a boorish, crazy, carousing aura like the '86 club? Some early signs: Jorge Julio who couldn't get in proper shape for the season, and, until his recent sucess, was being groomed by the fans to take over for Kaz Matzui as team scapegoat, DOES apparently have time to lay on the bar and have shots poored down his throat in the middle of the season. Funny, that's what fans have to do after they watch him come into a game to keep it close. Pedro Martinez, of course, is a team leader in crazy. Keith Hernandez, while a great ball player and a sometimes astute broadcaster, obviously can't keep his big dumb mouth shut, and when it comes to public expressions of misogyny, obviously does not fully appreciate the possible consequences of his actions. Much like the women's rights movement, Metsfans have labored mightily to achieve an important victory. And we're not gonna let some grecian-formuled dope ruin it for us. We've got riding on you pal, so get your lips off the crack pipe and join the 20th century! And to you classy guys and gals who boo Mets players on opening day, Barry Zito has demanded a trade, and it won't be to a boo-bird paradise, you Shea stadium types! Thursday, April 13

From mlb.com: "Are we going to win seven out of every eight? Probably not," Glavine, the sage, said. "But we can do a lot of two out of every three. ... We felt we would be good. We were built to be good. But we had to prove it to ourselves. That's what this run is doing. We have to get over that doubt. That's where we are as an organization. We've expected things to go wrong. 'We're the Mets.'""Are we going to win seven out of every eight? Probably not," Glavine, the sage, said. "But we can do a lot of two out of every three. ... From the New York Times, 4/08/06: "Beltran said yesterday that he was pleased with his decision to ultimately wave to the fans from the dugout steps. "Well, I went out," Beltran said. "I just took my time. Like I say, at the beginning, I don't feel like doing it, but I just put myself in the situation of what would God have done in a situation like that. You know, I'm a Christian guy, and after getting booed the first two days, and all of a sudden you come through and get a hit and all of a sudden they want you to go out in a curtain call, I put myself right there and I do believe God would have gone out." Are you there God? It's me, Carlos. Dumb comment result: Mets win, 9-3

From the New York Times: "Outside the Nationals' clubhouse, someone had posted a newspaper headline reading, "Old Brawl Game," a reference to the brawl that nearly broke out last Thursday with MartÃnez on the mound. Underneath the headline, someone had written "STRAP IT ON!" in big blue letters. If its intent was to motivate the home team Tuesday, it did not work." um...the Nationals are inspired by this quote, but not to play baseball. Dumb comment result: Mets win 7-1 Saturday, April 8

Tipped off by the great Metsradamus, I raced over to David Wright's new blog... Can you believe it? This guy is like Santa Claus, Jebus, and Frank Sinatra rolled into one and now he's gonna blog too? Anyhow, here is the text of my post to his comment section, in the event it is taken down for reasons of public decency. "Hey Mr. Wright, welcome to the Metsblogging community. My name is Itsmetsforme. I'm like the David Wright of the metsblogging community. I kid. I have two requests. I noticed that a poster above signed off: DA BRONX BOMBERS. Well we just can't have that. Please take every opportunity to express your hatred of the Yankees and the Braves. We hate them. Second I hope your publicist is penning this blog for you. Please don't waste too much of your time with a blog. We don't want you straining your eyes, or stubbing a finger or something. All we ask is that you continue your path to greatness, become the Metropolitian's savior, "wright" all the Met wrongs of the past decade, become the greatest 3rd baseman of all time, and spend your entire career as a Met. Is that too much to ask? Here's some suggestions for a name: Finally, which catch was better, your bare handed one last year, or A-Hern's April 5th one? Cmon, you can be honest. yours truly,

Ok now I'm really steamed. Shut out of my attempts to watch Pedro, I try WSH@NYM 04/05/06. I get right to the end of Bannister's no hit bid, and poof! Game is gone. I kind of wanted to see the team's implosion. Come on MLB, I can take it. I'm tough. I watched John Franco for Pete's sake. WTF? Friday, April 7

In this well-considered post, I make the case that MLB.com is an annoying rip off. Author urges MLB to put MLBtv.com on steroids like the rest of its products. more »
